Éva Tóthfalussy Veress has got a PhD in Biological Sciences, and has been in the service of the Babeş-Bolyai University in Cluj for over 50 years, in the beginning as a researcher, and following 1995 as a university lecturer teaching biophysics and biochemistry. She was invited to teach at foreign universities on several occasions, keeping a series of lectures for the academic staff and the students at the Department of Biophysics and Radiation Biology of the Semmelweis University in Budapest, about the medical applications of ultrasounds. She has lectured about organic farming/gardening for two years at the Agricultural University of Debrecen. She initiated the introduction of ecological farming in Transylvania; after 1991 she regularly lectured about organic gardening all over the country, and wrote numerous educational articles in magazines like the Falvak Népe (People of the Villages), the Kertbarátok Lapja (Journal of Garden Friends), the Erdélyi Gazda (Transylvanian Farmer), the daily Szabadság (Liberty), and other periodicals. Since 1982 she has been cultivating her own garden by organic methods, and has been sharing her experience with the readers of the Erdélyi Gazda, as well as with radio and television audiences. Her garden turned into a model garden since then, where the students from the University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine from Cluj-Napoca, as well as other interested people can learn about the methods of organic farming gardening. Her highly successful book entitled “Az én biokertem” (My Organic Garden) appeared in 2015, becoming a must-read for many organic gardeners all across the Carpathian Basin.
Within the framework of the Hungarian Cultural Days of Cluj, Éva Tóthfalussy Veress will be the guest of the Flowery Cluj Booth of the Cluj/Kolozsvár Town Embellishment Society, where she will be ready to provide a lot of advice on issues related to organic farming. The conversation will be moderated by Kinga László.
